WHY DO I COLLECT?

Why do I collect? That's easy... because it's so much fun! Ever since I can remember I have been going to flea markets, antique shops, yard sales, you name it. Wherever I could find some sort of interesting treasure or cool piece of junk! I love driving around in search of new places or revisiting my favorite spots. I come from a family of collectors and have lived amongst antiques and collectibles my whole life. I have a passion for decorating especially with things that I find in my travels or even things found in the trash... which by the way can be some of the best stuff! But for those who share the same passion, I don't have to tell you... you all know what fun it is and how addicting it can be! Here I will share my collections, interesting finds, decorating tips, photos, projects, friends collections and thoughts and whatever else I may find along the way.

A FAVORITE...

I haven't posted my flamingo collection yet. Yep, that's right! Flamingos! Vintage, ceramic flamingos and other stuff like vintage souvenirs from Florida that have flamingos on them, etc... Anyway, this is a favorite piece. A wooden, painted tray that I found on a table of JUNK at an estate sale. 25 cents!

VINTAGE LAUNDRY BAGS

I even have collections in my laundry room! Here are some vintage, embroidered laundry bags and a CAT that had to get in the picture!

LADY HEAD VASES

A few favorites from my collection. These lady head vases were used for flower arrangements in the 50s and 60s. Most are dated on the bottom and made by companies like INARCO and NAPCO. Some had dangling pearl earrings and pearl necklaces. They come in all sizes and have become very expensive. I don't really buy many of these anymore unless I see them at a yard sale or thrift store for little money. At antique shops they can go for $75 or more.

More yard sale finds from my vintage kitchen.

GARDEN HOSE NOZZLES

Again, don't ask!! :-) I had picked up a box of junk at a yard sale and there was a garden hose nozzle in there... I thought it looked cool placed amongst some of my other vintage garden stuff. Then, I found a few more here and there, some came from friends (thanks Mark & Carol!) and before you know it, another collection was started!

SOUVENIR PLATES

Shown here are just a few of my vintage souvenir plates. I tend to only collect ones from Florida, New York and New Jersey. Why? Who knows! Mostly I find these at yard sales, flea markets and thrift stores. Cheap... anywhere from 10 cents to a few dollars.

VINTAGE TROPHIES

Some of my favorites. There's something cool about old bowling trophies and others. Dated from the 30's - 50's. One of the small loving cups was found at a local yard sale... from a dog show dated 1904. I paid 50 cents for it. Nice!

VINTAGE FLORIST BASKETS

These wicker and wood with tin inserts and metal baskets were used by florists for floral arrangements for weddings, funerals, etc. I was lucky to come across about 10 at once at a flea market a few years ago. The dealer seemed anxious to get rid of them and let me have them all for $3.oo!! What a deal. I have seen the larger ones at antique shops and shows for up to $75.00. So I was happy to add the 10 to my others.

GARDEN SPRINKLERS

Since Spring is near I thought I'd showcase some selections from my vintage garden sprinkler collection. Fun! Not sure what got me started on these! I just love the look of them. Oh, and they all work and have been used to water my lawn!
