WHY DO I COLLECT?

Why do I collect? That's easy... because it's so much fun! Ever since I can remember I have been going to flea markets, antique shops, yard sales, you name it. Wherever I could find some sort of interesting treasure or cool piece of junk! I love driving around in search of new places or revisiting my favorite spots. I come from a family of collectors and have lived amongst antiques and collectibles my whole life. I have a passion for decorating especially with things that I find in my travels or even things found in the trash... which by the way can be some of the best stuff! But for those who share the same passion, I don't have to tell you... you all know what fun it is and how addicting it can be! Here I will share my collections, interesting finds, decorating tips, photos, projects, friends collections and thoughts and whatever else I may find along the way.

SATURDAY ANTIQUING

Drove through Allentown on Saturday and of course had to stop into Black Rose and Weil Antique Centers. 2 of my favorite spots. So much to see and very inspiring as usual! And of course I came home with a few pottery planters. :-) Love the grey one! Don't see too many pieces on grey!

SATURDAY ANTIQUING

Spent yesterday with my good friends Jenny and John... antiquing at some of my favorite places and of course came home with a few treasures... the highlight being a vintage tin dustpan! I'd been looking for one. The kind that matches my kitchen canisters... and at the last place we stopped at, there it was! :-) Also, very happy with the tin tray... loving the blue! And to my surprise, I came across a little bark canoe which I just had to get. And... of course there's aways pottery to be found! Jenny got some good stuff too so I will look forward to having her as Guest Collector very soon!

RECENT THRIFT STORE FINDS

I've been having some good luck at the thrift stores lately. Stopped into some of my favorites last week and found this stuff! The vintage glass pitcher... $1... funky mid century yellow pottery dish... $2. Loving all the pottery planters (of course!) especially the pale blue one. Don't see too many in blue.

TRASH = TREASURE!

Found this great stick table in the trash yesterday! **LOVE** Not sure where it will go yet... or if I will paint it. I love it as is and with a little cleaning up and some minor sanding it could look great. I've also seen these painted so I'm still thinking! I may save it for a Spring project... once again, how could someone have thrown this out!!  :-)

TRASH = TREASURE!

While out driving one morning, my niece Amy found this great vintage cabinet in the trash! How could someone get rid of this! Excellent condition with the glass panel in tact... she got it home, sanded it down and refinished it with a rubbed red and black distressed finish. Gorgeous! Looks so beautiful with her collection of white ceramic pieces inside!

TABLE SETTING

I love to use a mix of vintage restaurant plates from my collection to set the table for the holidays. My Thompson china is a favorite... and it's my last name! I also have some of the matching Thompson flatware which looks fun as accent and serving pieces on the table.

THRIFT STORE THURSDAY!

I decided to hit a few thrift stores last Thursday in search of a birthday gift for a friend. Of course I did not come home empty handed! :-) As we headed to Care and Share in Souderton, we passed by a small thrift shop in Hilltown Township that's always closed every time I go by. Well, I got lucky and it was open and as we walked in George spotted yet another vintage trash can! $2! Yay! Also found these 2 nice pottery planters (at Care and Share). For a while now I have been searching for a vintage metal stool for my kitchen. I've seen many but not the right one. I was very tempted to buy one on ebay but some are quite expensive and I knew if I held out long enough I would come across one. So, on the way home we stopped at NOVA Thrift Shop in Dublin and of course there was the perfect stool! $5! Gave it a quick coat of red paint to keep the vintage look and it's exactly what I had in mind! Also found this cool red flour tin for $1. :-)

POTTERY in the BATHROOM

Even though most of my pottery collection is in one room, I do have a few pieces here and there. It does come in handy and adds color and fun wherever it is!

WEEKEND FINDS

Found these 2 McCoy planters at a yard sale this past Saturday and this large blue pottery vase at a church rummage sale for $2. Nice! Also, stopped into Black Rose Antique Center in Allentown on Sunday, one of my most favorite spots... and found this vintage tin trash can. Been wanting one of these for a while but hadn't come across the right one for the right price. This one is perfect and I love that it's yellow and green. Goes great with my vintage tin kitchen canisters and lots of other stuff too!
